Renovation of the district heating piping system of six housing companies
Six housing companies located in the Hurttivuori district in Turku have a joint heating plant – Nokikana Oy. The terraced houses, which were built between 1975 and 1977, contain a total of 104 flats. Heating and water are supplied to all flats by a joint heating plant. Renovating the piping system became a necessity due to leaks. The plant's insulated elements were renovated in such a way that all residents were able to live in their homes for the entire duration of the renovation.
Quick & Easy joint technology
Uponor's Quick & Easy joint technology was used at the site. The particularity is that, thanks to the joint technology, there was no need to assemble T-shaped pieces separately from parts. T-shaped joints made of PPSU plastic were used instead. This significantly reduces the number of joints remaining underground. The mains run all over the plot, and several branches were built. One of the advantages of Q&E joints is that they are quick to install. Easy-to-use tools can always be installed without problems. The joints have also proved to be reliable in pressure tests.
- Pipes run underground for a total of 5 kilometres. This is an interesting site as it uses all of the products within the product group – from the large 110 mm pipe in the heat distribution room all the way to the 18 mm flat-specific pipes, says Uponor's regional sales manager Jani Piiroinen.Faster project thanks to new joints
Master-Putki Oy is responsible for HVAC installations at the site. According to Managing Director Jouko Rantanen, the scale of the project becomes apparent when one sees the amount of material at the site. All installations have progressed extremely well and on schedule. The site will be completed within two months.
- Based of the fitters' feedback, the connection method is reliable and speeds up work. Work has been organised in such a way that all residents have been able to live normally in their homes throughout the renovation, emphasises Jouko Rantanen.
The renovation will provide the six housing companies, namely As Oy Hemppo, Isokoskelo, Uivelo, Metsäviklo, Merisirri and Vesipääsky, with a reliable and high-quality solution made to last.
