The Empresa Municipal de Transportes de Madrid, SA (EMT), the transport company of Madrid, Spain is responsible for the provision of public transport in Madrid´s various municipalities.
EMT is considered the largest urban transport company in Spain and one of the biggest in Europe.
EMT is making every effort to improve the quality of the service it provides through its network of bus routes. Its prime concern has been, and remains, to satisfy customers´ needs and shoulder its duty of proceeding with its activities while paying particular attention to all aspects of environmental protection and energy efficiency.
As a result of its strategic growth plans, the decision was taken to scale up its bus service by a further 10% to a total of 2.272 vehicles. Therefore ir became also necessary to build a new operational centre in Madrid, which is to include the refitting and construction of bus depot.
The hope was that with the renovation, the new building could rise to a new level with its energy efficiency, and increase comfort for the EMT employees in the process. Thus the project group quickly realised that to opt all this, they needed to incorporate more advanced solutions in the building in term of air-conditioning and energy, still making, sure that the technical and finalcial between the initial cost and functional performance in the next few years would be as good as possible. Having examined several air-conditioning systems, EMT´s consulting partner decided to install Uponor´s Invisible underfloor cooling and heating solution.

Uponor Flowise drinking water solution to Levi's tourism mecca
The ski slopes of Levi attract thousands of tourists every year. Water consumption varies greatly, which is why the water intake plant in Kirakka in Levi was renovated to meet the consumption peaks during peak seasons. As part of the project, Uponor delivered two huge reservoir tanks to ensure sufficient supply of clean water in the area.

Uponor Flowise lösningar för Levi i Finlands turistmecka
Skidbackarna i Levi lockar tusentals turister varje år. Vattenförbrukningen varierar mycket, varför vattenintagsanläggningen i Kirakka i Levi renoverades för att klara förbrukningstopparna under högsäsong.

Tailored renovation solution
The Vierimaantie road, located close to the town centre of Ylivieska, Finland has a concrete sewer line constructed in the 1960s and 1970s. A decision was taken to renovate this sewer using a tailored solution, and the product developed for this purpose is now also available to other customers.
Old water intake plant upgraded to modern version
The Hietasärkä water intake plant is part of the Suomussalmi water supply system, the task of which is to ensure the sufficiency of clean drinking water for the needs of municipal residents. Corrosion damage to the water supply network was previously prevented with lye, but due to safety risks, it was replaced by a chemical-free method. At the same time, an extensive overall renovation was carried out at the water intake plant.
Brønderslev implements new treatment methods
To ensure water quality in nature, Brønderslev Utility is now intensifying its efforts to safely treat rainwater. Uponor Infra is supplying specially designed treatment chambers to treat rainwater from a 20-hectare area before it is discharged into a stormwater basin.
Espoo's Itäranta is being renovated sustainably
HSY (Helsinki Region Environmental Services HSY) is testing a new kind of area renovation operating model in Itäranta, Espoo, where the aim is to get the area's water supply network in order once and for all. New steps are also being taken towards more sustainable construction: the selected Uponor Blue pipes utilising renewable raw materials will reduce the carbon footprint of pipeline installations by 70% compared to traditional plastic pipes.

Uponors tekonologi Weholite var lösningen till ett unikt projekt i London, där Lee- och Thames Tideway-tunneln har till uppgift att fånga upp i genomsnitt 39 miljoner ton avloppsvatten per år från de 35 mest nedsmutsade kombinerade avloppssystemen. Ett uppgraderat rörsystem designades för att minska antalet översvämningar – och deras påverkan på miljön – från Londons avlopps- och reningssystem. The City of Espoo is the first in Finland to introduce the Vortex stormwater separation chamber. It can be used to efficiently separate floating and descending solids from stormwater. The aim is to reduce the maintenance costs of the retention system built from stormwater tunnels and prevent solids from ending up in waterbodies.

A smart retention system for an anti-flooding solution
September 2018 saw the launch of the project for a stormwater drainage system in Rzeszów, almost 26 kilometres long, in the residential District of Budziwój, which partially coincides with the floodplain of the River Wisłok. One of the elements of this system is the retention canal. The project, scheduled for delivery by May 2020, will help to finally solve flooding problems which have been plaguing the residents of this region of Poland.
Fighting against an ecological disaster in a world-record time
Rapid action was critical when a sewage collector broke in Warsaw, Poland, causing a massive waste spill into the Vistula River. Uponor Infra’s crew worked 24 hours a day in order to stop the pollution of the river. A temporary pipeline was produced, delivered and connected in just eight days.
Unique design ensures controlled stormwater drainage
In Slagelse Municipality, there are requirements for the drainage of rainwater and wastewater to be separated, and therefore it was important that the wastewater solution on the street, Nordre Ringgade, was also updated in accordance with current legislation. The client has received an approved solution where the wastewater from the commercial property in no. 59 has been separated from the rainwater. The rainwater is now diverted directly from the 2,500 m2 car park.

Clean drinking water for 17,000 scouts
Roihu 2016 – the 7th International Finnjamboree organised by Suomen Partiolaiset - Finlands Scouter ry, was held at the Evo campsite in Hämeenlinna on 20–28 July 2016. A camp for 17,100 people was built in a forest area owned by Metsähallitus. Some 3,000 participants arrived from abroad – from about 40 different countries. Uponor delivered 7,600 metres of pipes to the area. The pipes were used to supply clean water and to lead grey water away from the area in a controlled manner.
New Uponor IQ –Storm water system - Sustainability and Quality in Road Infrastructure
In December 2011 Central Finland´s ELY –centre (The Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment) started significant road constructing project in Jyväskylä. The aim is to create a new route between highways 18, 9 and 4, which helps reduce traffic jams and smoothes commutation. Large, modern and fitted with the latest in air conditioning technologies. In 2012, construction work got underway on a new world class hospital on Maatweg in the Dutch city of Amersfoort. The building has since been handed over, and patients can now be better accommodated than at the old sites in Amersfoort.
