Renovation
First opening its doors in 1766, Addenbrook hospital was one of the first provincial voluntary hospitals in UK, and at the time housed just 20 beds and 11 patients; a far cry from the patient level of today. The Cambridgeshire landmark has now been in operation on its new site since the invention of the National Health Service in the 1960s and is currently undergoing a renovation program to replace all the service pipework throughout the hospital in preparation for an extension to be ready in 2020. With punctuality a key issue in working hospital, Installers James Brown Mechanical services choose to opt for Uponor flexible large diameter pipework to get the job completed.
The versatility of Uponor MLC system allows it to be used throughout the project in the process of replacing all the existing service pipework from metal to plastic. Uponor MLC pipe has a full WRAS Scheme approval for use in drinking water applications in the UK, making it ideal for pressurised hot and cold water systems. The Uponor MLC pressfit jointing system
used by the installers is simply effected by bevelling the pipe, inserting the fitting and pressing with an Uponor 'Mini Gun 32', a process which takes only a matter of seconds.
Uponor's MLC pipe is recognised for being a market leader in the flexible plumbing market. The pipe enjoys a 100% oxygen tight construction (which prolongs the life of your pumps and other equipment sensitive to corrosion), form stable yet flexible plumbing technology (bends when you want and remains rigid when you need it to) and lastly limited expansion and smooth internal bore (allows the pipe to be used in hot and cold water, as well as heating applications without deterioration in the pipe's size or shape). The high spec nature of the project meant that by having all the pipework in Uponor MLCP, Addenbrooks were able to have a fast 'hassle-free' plumbing solution.
