Managing Director Juha Marjamo from Kirkkonummen Vuokra-asunnot Oy says that ready to install (R2i) elements made it possible to put the wall between the bathroom and the hallway to effective use. Ease of maintenance is also fundamental as inspections and maintenance measures are easy to carry out thanks to the openable structure of the elements.

- The site was completed on schedule, and no maintenance work has been required since its completion. The solution works well, states a satisfied Juha Marjamo, Managing Director at Kirkkonummen Vuokra-asunnot Oy.

 

R2i elements are manufactured under controlled factory conditions and are then taken to the site when they are needed there. This reduces the amount of work to be carried out at the construction site, thus accelerating construction. The use of elements offers advantages not only during construction but also during use and maintenance. Thanks to their openable casing, the water and heat pipes on Sokeritehtaantie are easy to inspect and fully replaceable. The underfloor heating control unit, valves and shut-off valves are in their own casing on the hallway side. Uponor also delivered a Comfort thermal floor equipped with regulators to Sokeritehtaantie.

- It was possible to connect the underfloor heating manifold cabinet integrated in the back side of the elements directly to the trunk line on the other side. This way, we avoided the typically troublesome pipe casings necessary in the presence of horizontal pulls, as well as other adverse effects of on-site construction on schedules and costs at the construction site, says Uponor's Project Development Manager Toni Wahlfors.
 
The main contractor was V O Mattila Oy. Uponor installed all R2i elements. The project was commissioned by Kirkkonummen Vuokra-asunnot Oy, and the piping contractor was Skanska Lahti.

- Uponor delivered the R2i elements in batches. All elements were installed within a short period of time, and everything went smoothly. In terms of maintenance, the Uponor service flue is an excellent choice. There have been no complaints as I'd be one of the first to hear about them, says Väinö Kananoja from V O Mattila Oy, the main contractor.

When pre-manufactured elements are used, the erection of the frame line does not affect processes or schedules at the construction site.

-    The project included all necessary pipes, connections, insulation and fire protection material for the entire line (in the elements and between floors). As the elements had pre-manufactured connections, the piping contractor could quickly move on to couple the fittings, states Toni Wahlfors from Uponor.
