Project description
Glued timber technology was used for the construction of Ogre Central Library that is one of the first public buildings in Latvia built with this technology. The library will serve as a multifunctional cultural education centre, and will house the library and the Registry Office.
The two-storey building is the so-called passive building or a building with zero energy consumption. Both the facade and the interiors feature many open timber structures: timber is the primary material used in this building. The load-bearing structures of the building are made of glued solid timber panels arranged in a crosswise and lengthwise pattern to ensure high structural capacity and stability required from load-bearing structures.
The new building also features a smart lighting system that uses up to 80 % of the natural light. The building also boasts a recuperation ventilation system that will channel out the air, but recuperate the heat. It also has a heating system with a sewage wastewater heat exchanger; and the green wall in the atrium will be watered with the collected rainwater. Furthermore, solar panels have been installed on the steel structures above the car park to locally generate power.
Financing of Ogre Central Library: EUR 9.6 mln, of which EUR 5.0 mln from the Emissions Trading System, and EUR 4.6 mln co-financing from Ogre Municipality.
